The aims of international cultural and educational exchange are to increase mutual understanding between the peoples of
different nations, establish a basis for peaceful cooperative development, and increase the level of internationalization
of Taiwan's education system. In the last few years, the ROC has become an active participant in the international community,
engaging in educational and cultural exchange programs of mutual benefit with countries all around the world. The results of these
efforts have been quite impressive.
Besides assisting local schools and colleges to establish international cooperative relationships with overseas schools, the Ministry
of Education also provides assistance for the holding of international conferences in Taiwan, encourages Taiwanese scholars
to attend international conferences overseas and to participate in the activities of international cultural and educational organizations,
at the same time actively promoting international cultural, educational and artistic exchange activities.
Gradually, the number of international students coming to Taiwan to study Chinese or other courses is increasing. In addition to provide
more living and learning assistance, the government also provides regular and special scholarships to encourage overseas students to study
in Taiwan.
