Because the government believes that high education is the key factor to promote the capability of Taiwanese international
competivitiveness, more universities have been established in recent years. Taiwan has become one of the highest educated
populations in Asia. Currently 4.94% of the population have earned an undergraduate degree.
Seventeen colleges and universities in Taiwan have established Mandarin Chinese Teaching Centers throughout Taiwan, with
each of them offering the high quality of Chinese Language Education. Each language center has its own Chinese teaching materials.
These materials are edited with both phonetic transcription and phonetic symbols; in addition to practical general textbooks, each
center uses active and lively multi-media teaching materials.
