NCU

National Central University is located in one of the most populous and busiest areas in the north of Taiwan--- Jhongli City (Tao-yuan County). The whole campus is built on a hill plain with pine tress and many other semi-tropical plants decorating along every foot path on campus, and this earns NCU great fame for its beautiful on-campus scenery. Being a research-oriented and one of the top-ten universities in Taiwan, NCU is well-known for its achievement in a wide range of academic fieldswhich is testified by the university’s being able to offer a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. programs under the College of Liberal Arts, College of Science, College of Engineering, School of Management, College of Electrical Engineering & Computer science, College of Earth Science, and College of Hakka Studies, etc. In 2002, NCU and three other universities i.e. National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, and Yung Ming University cooperated to form the “University System of Taiwan”, based on which the academic resources of the four universities are expanded and the teaching and learning resources of NCU are enriched.

LANGUAGE CENTER & CHINESE LANGUAGE PROGRAM

Since the preparation stage in 2001 (with formal establishment commencing from 2003), many students have benefited much from the teaching and learning resources in the Language Center of NCU, and the operation of Chinese Language Program even profits more foreign students especially overseas Chinese, exchange students, and foreign staff of the university, making the Language Center as well as the university progress more rapidly toward the trend of internationalization and globalization. On the whole, the Language Center of NCU sets its goal on becoming an institute specializing in language teaching and learning, hoping to offer high quality of teaching and at the same time to conduct research related to language teaching and learning, on count of which we are able to carry out courses in correspondence with students’ needs. Students at our center are also offered the opportunities to participate in academic symposia and conferences held at NCU during their stay with us; besides, those who wish to apply for the undergraduate or graduate programs at NCU can also seek assistance via us at any time. Before each term of programs start, students are helped to choose the best courses in accordance with their proficiency of Chinese language as well as personal inclination/aptitude. With the aid of modern audio-video equipments (e.g. multi-media classrooms designed especially for ‘CALL’) and the cooperation amongst professional teaching staff, the Chinese Language Program will devote its energy to Chinese language teaching and contribute to the research administered by the Language Center of NCU where appropriately in the future.
