Programs are designed to develop students¡¦ ability to use Chinese fluently and accurately in areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. In addition to regular programs, the CLD regularly organized field trips such as visiting traditional Taiwanese cultural spots, temples, museums, exhibitions art schools, and pottery factories, which provide students with direct exposure to Chinese culture. All CLD Students gain full access to the University¡¦s campus facilities and can enjoy using the athletic center, campus libraries and computer labs with Internet access.
Program Dates and academic information:
CLD currently offers two programs: Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, and Chinese as a Foreign Language.
1. Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Program
The
Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language Program is for college graduates who are
interested in pursuing a career in teaching Chinese. The
program is jointly run
by the Chinese Language Division and International Chinese Language Program (ICLP)
and offers courses in Chinese linguistics, teaching methodology and course
design. There are four terms each year and the average class size is 35
students.
2. Chinese as a Foreign Language Program
The Chinese as a Foreign Language Program has four terms each year. Except for the winter term which lasts for ten weeks, the spring, summer, and fall terms all take twelve weeks to complete. The Chinese as a Foreign Language Program is open to foreign students or exchange students. Classes are divided into three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Each level is further divided into several sub-levels, stressing different skills as level advances. The advanced level focuses more on reading and writing, and students at this level are trained in public speaking, discussion, negotiation, debating, and research in Chinese. The class content and the teaching materials are designed to meet the students' needs and interests.
