In addition to a strong Chinese language expertise, LC teachers have backgrounds and training in many other fields as well, including Chinese history, Chinese philosophy, other foreign languages, business, broadcast journalism, theater, and much more. The experienced faculty is enthusiastic about teaching Chinese using a curriculum that is engaging and systematic. The faculty has a reputation for producing students with a firm grasp of the Chinese language.

COURSES: The courses offered at the LC are organized into 4 categories: (1.) Regular Classes, (2.) Special Classes, (3.) Cultural Classes, and (4.) Extramural Classes.
INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC COOPERATION: Inasmuch as Fu Jen University has international academic cooperation arrangement with 101 academic institutions of higher learning (the list is at http://acd.rdo.fju.edu ) the LC gives 6 hours of free classes to the exchange students coming from these institutions.

The Administration office and the students’ lounge are located on the first floor of the Cardinal Tien Building which is the first building to the left as one enters Fu Jen from the main entrance. Classrooms, study room and teachers’ lounge are on the second and third floors. The speech laboratory is located at the college of Foreign Languages and Literature.
Post office, ATM machines, restaurants, coffee shops, and convenient stores can be found on campus. Classes |
Note |
|
The Regular Classes stress the conducting of classes in small groups, even in group classes. Thus, besides the individual classes, group classes are organized into 2-3 students per group, and 4-7 students per group. These small group classes provide better teaching atmosphere and the learning result has been very positive. Individual classes are more flexible, allowing the classes to be organized according to particular needs and interests of the students. Classes are generally divided into Elementary Level, Intermediate Level, and Advance Level. All fulltime students are required to take 10 hours of classes per week. At the Elementary Level, beginners are required to take additional 3 hours of Speech Laboratory classes to introduce them to proper Chinese pronunciation, and to give them chance to speak out loud their first Chinese words. |
|
Special Classes (Optional) |
Special Classes require a minimum number of students of the same proficiency level before they can be offered. Normally these courses are given by LC teachers according to their specialized expertise. Thus classes in Chinese Philosophy, Literature, Business, Catholic Catechism, etc., are regularly offered. Teachers may also offer College Preparatory classes for those students planning to enroll later in the local universities. |
|
Cultural Classes (Periodic) |
Cultural Classes are organized in conjunction with the
celebration of major Chinese festivals like Dragon Boat Festival, Chinese
New |
|
Extramural Classes (Periodic) |
The Extramural Classes (also known as Field Trips) are conducted outside the LC. A particular destination, generally or cultural significance, is chosen beforehand. All students and teachers join the activity with the teacher providing the input and the students writing their impressions. These classes are organized twice a year. |
