The Chinese Language Center (CLC):  National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) founded the Chinese Language Center in 1982 in order to increase interest in the Chinese language and culture throughout the world. Since the establishment of the CLC, the Center has created a learning environment that provides the best possible opportunity for those interested in learning Mandarin Chinese and studying various aspects of the Chinese culture. The CLC is currently housed in the new Xiu Qi Building, built in June 2000.  The CLC is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including language laboratories, language software, and Internet access, in order to ensure the student¡¦s learning experience is productive and enjoyable. The Chinese Language Center¡¦s purpose is two-fold: 1. strengthen international friendships through the promotion of cultural exchange and 2. enable overseas students interested in Chinese studies to use it as a stepping stone towards their academic and career goals.

PROGRAM DATES AND ACADEMIC INFORMATION:

The Chinese Language Center offers courses for students at beginner, basic, intermediate and advanced levels of proficiency. The Center's teachers are highly experienced, conscientious and responsible. Through a rigorous selection process our teachers are chosen from a pool of the most outstanding graduates from the NCKU College of Liberal Arts, College of Management and College of Social Sciences. Once selected the new teachers enter an intensive training program and upon successful completion are certified to teach in the CLC. We also believe that the social and cultural aspects of life at our language center are very important. In addition to our language courses, we provide a number of optional classes (at no extra charge to our students). These include the following courses: Beginner¡¦s Taiwanese Language, Chinese Language Movies, TaiJiQuan, Chinese Painting and Chinese Calligraphy. In addition, informal inter-class competitions are held every semester and include everything from Chinese speech contests to Karaoke competitions! Furthermore, every semester complementary outings and social activities are provided in order to give our students the opportunity to make friends with other students and teachers. In doing so, it is our hope that the student¡¦s time at the CLC is a pleasurable and rewarding experience.
